AU Students Visit Africa & Asia for a Unique Spring Break

Social responsibility is inbuilt into the DNA of our students. This spring break was no exception, as groups of our students visited countries in Africa and Asia to raise awareness about oral health and built infrastructure for the under-privileged students.

Group of students visited Zanzibar and Kenya on a CSR volunteering trip. In Zanzibar they raised awareness about oral hygiene at public schools and conducted dental check-ups and treatment procedures at camps for the children. Students came back with reflective hearts warmed by the innocence of children and their happiness despite not having any facilities or running water for that matter.

In Kenya, they participated at a food distribution camp for the under privileged who walk for miles at times to come and take food, juice, bread and some sweets. Students had the honor of building a run-down play-ground at a school which over time had become a junk yard. They renovated the swings and garden with bright and cheerful colors to match the primary school students’ spirit.

In India their efforts at renovating schools and furbishing a computer lab for a school were met with high praise from the management. They raised awareness about oral hygiene and demonstrated the need for proper brushing and regular check-ups. They treated patients in a room provided by the school management, wherein AU dentists conducted procedures from tooth removal to cavity fillings amongst others.

Ajman University is proud of its students’ initiatives and encourages them to reach out to communities near and far. These trips are organized in conjunction with Community Service Office and Student Affairs Deanship to ensure the students comprehensive experience adds value to their academic life.
